About Jason
My name is Jason Pamental. I’m an expert web typographer, design strategist, UX leader, technologist, and Invited Expert on the W3C Web Fonts Working Group. Currently, I serve as Principal Designer on the design systems team at Chewy. I also write, speak, and give workshops that helps teams and brand owners set type better on digital platforms. I’ve spoken with organizations like Adobe, Audible, Condé Nast, GoDaddy, IBM—and given presentations and workshops at over a hundred conferences all over the world.

Previously, I’ve spent much of my time working with clients to establish their typographic systems and digital strategy, helping design and development teams works smarter and faster, and running workshops about all of the above. I’v worked in the web industry for over 30 years, in both creative and technical roles. Past clients range from state governments, type industry giants, Ivy League and High Tech, to the NFL and America’s Cup.
Knowing my type
After years of having my love affair with type stymied by the likes of font tags, SIFR, and Cufon, the advent of @font-face and the launch of Typekit gave new life and avenues of exploration. Since 2010 I’ve been researching and writing on typography for the web and digital platforms: I’m author of Responsive Typography from O’Reilly, articles for .Net Magazine, PRINT Magazine, Fonts.com, and more. I’m also a frequent podcast guest, having appeared on The Web Ahead, Boagworld, Non-Breaking Space, Front End Nerdery, Design Huddle, and others. An experienced speaker and workshop leader, I have presented over a hundred national and international conferences on the subjects of web typography, responsive design, and design strategy & process.
An avid road cyclist and reformed full-time competitor, I still grapple with the eternal question “if it’s not on Strava, did it really happen?”
The real story: mainly I just follow Leo and Henry around Turner Reservoir, posting photos on Instagram.
