Well, it was way overdue. I finally got my 912 back on the road after having the engine rebuilt last summer. I’ve SERIOUSLY missed driving this car! Now it’s back to being fun to drive to work - especially on days with offsite meetings or on Thursdays heading down to Newport for J/24 racing!
While the engine was out I had all the sheet metal powder-coated and I rebuilt the carburetors and scrubbed the layers of grime from the rest of the parts and exhaust. It’s been back on the road since July 4th weekend and I’ve put about 2,000 miles in, and the engine has broken in nicely.
I had to add the last touch to really make it road-ready. The 912 Registry has been an invaluable source of advice, wisdom and camaraderie over the years. I can’t wait to drive out to a Rendezvous in California sometime over the next few years. Ellen’s not too thrilled about it, but I’m looking at that as my reward once I finish interior restoration and get it painted back in it’s original special-order silver metallic. It’s truly a joy to drive, and all the more so for doing most of the work myself. Definitely good therapy to counteract working on a computer all day!
